MoPac - DRGW Lines

Back in 98 Mike began what he thought was to be his final layout because his interest had gone from wanting to build Colorado DRGW narrow gauge to Missouri Pacific standard gauge. As he continued his research he found that both the MoPac and DRGW ran jointly up to Denver. He quickly realized that he could have the best of both worlds.

No special locations in either Colorado or Missouri are modeled on the layout. Mike was looking for a track plan that would fit his space and give equal attention to both gauges. The main line for both gauges had to be a loop of some nature and with plenty of switching. On top of all this he also wanted some kind of branch line for the narrow gauge.

He ended up with two loops of track, one being narrow gauge and the other standard. The narrow gauge is on the high line and the standard is always ducking underneath. Both of them come together in a three-rail yard. This allows for switching of freight between the gauges and having constant running for both. Since he likes double heading on the narrow gauge there is a “Y” at the top of the narrow gauge for turning the helper loco and this is also where the branch comes in.

Digitrax runs the layout and most of the switches are radio on the main line of both gauges. Some of the locos have sound installed. As this is being written, the branch and main standard gauge yard are not complete and there is no scenery.
